As mentioned in my introduction, there is a Presence in the back of my mind. It isn’t always there, but it seems to be during the crazier times in my adventuring.
I first felt it on my way to Gridania to start my exploration of the world. It came upon me while I was in a cart with others.
In talking with other adventurers, this is a common occurrence. Most others have experienced a similar Presence in their minds. It appears when the urge to go adventuring takes over. It has pushed me to do some crazy things. Most of which I have been successful with.
At this point, I think it would be wise to acknowledge the healer adventurers out there. They can keep you alive during some of the more crazy endeavors and even resurrect you if you take a fatal blow. The gods only know how many times I’ve died, only to be resurrected by a healer so I can continue on. I’ll say more about that later.
Now, back to “The Presence.”
When The Presence shows up, it is typically with me for hours and, more likely, days. Then it will go away and stay away for roughly a week or two. There have been a few times where it was gone for over moon. It feels like it measures time differently than we do.
Other than encouraging me to do some crazy stuff, mine seems to be very benevolent. It has led me to some good friends and even urged me to get an apartment and build a sushi bar and tavern in the house of the Free Company I belong to.
All of that said, it has driven me to participate in battles with gods and monsters of varying degrees. Some of those monsters bare a resemblance to some of my friends. Some are in forms I hope I never encounter again.
Hey everyone!
I’m going to take over for a bit here… I’m that Presence that Gar talks about.
I live on a planet called Earth and play a game called Final Fantasy XIV. Gar is one of my characters in the game… along with Rauwrer. I’m an extremely casual gamer.
I have no idea what Gar gets up to when I am not playing the game. He seems to loaf around a bit and hang out with friends. He can frequently be found at his sushi bar and tavern.
As Gar guesses, time does move more slowly for me than for him. A day for him is just over an hour for me.
Gar is a lot of fun, and, yeah, I’ve probably “encouraged” him to do some things that he wouldn’t have done on his own.
In Earth terms, I’m an old guy who likes to occasionally escape from reality for a while and go spend some time with Gar, Rauwrer, and their friends in Eorzea.
Gar and Rauwrer are different but share their childhood experiences and upbringing, giving them quite a bit of commonality.
I’ll probably jump in here occasionally to express some thoughts, but most of this will be Gar or Rauwrer.
By the way, in “real life,” I go by the name Ben.
Now back to Gar…
— The Presence
Uh…
Oh…
Hmmm…
I guess you got a chance to hear from The Presence. I had no clue about what he just shared with you.
That is actually more than a bit unnerving. That said, it has made my life a lot more interesting and hasn’t caused me any lasting harm … Well, no harm that healers couldn’t take care of.
Have I said that I really love the healers?
Okay, after that revelation, I will take a break for a while.
Have fun & take care,
— Gar
