The Value of Friends as Teachers

So, recently those Moogles started another one of their Irregular Tomestone Events. In these events, you gather the Irregular Tomestones by running specific duties. The duties will give a specific number of Tomestones.

In the current event, there are two duties that give the highest number of tombstones: The Praetorium (level 50) and The Tower at Paradigm’s Breach (level 80).

For higher-level players, the Praetorium can be a bit tedious because it has a lot of monologues and dialogues that are part of it. And you are forced to listen to them. There is no way to run through them or around them.

The Tower ad Paradigm’s Breach is simply a challenge… A lot of complex mechanics that are also fast-moving and can be overlapping. If you don’t know how to read them, you are going to die a lot and give the healers a good workout. Believe me, I know.

As a result, I was a bit intimidated by Paradigm’s Breach but I really didn’t want to run through Praetorium a lot.

Enter Sylv Tientor… We set up a special linkshell so he could communicate with me throughout the run. It was primarily one way so he didn’t have to listen to my screams, or cussing, or other such noises.

After around four runs, I found the runs a lot less stressful. After about six or so runs, I was only dying a couple of times. (Hey, that was a huge reduction.) And then it happened, I ran it without dying. I’m really happy that Sylv was in that run with me and got to see it.

Don’t get me wrong… Sometimes the Random Number Gods just don’t roll in your favor or I’m having a bad day. But when you get to the point that you know that it wasn’t your lack of skill, but chance, it makes things better.

Oh, for those that don’t want to suffer through that, you can probably get about the same number of irregular tombstones per unit of time by repetitively running any of the Alexander Raids. That can be very repetitive but it is of short duration.

Just a note that Sylv is not the only one who taught me A LOT. There are a number of others: Lucari Norosch, Mihlah’li Tia, Mazzerine Delphine, Silvas Darkpaw, Dav’gan Ganajai, and many more.

I also want to acknowledge that many of these are just friends I encountered in the game. Some have the Mentor title. But most were just more skilled people who knew what was going on and helped me along the way.

Best wishes, and I hope you are able to get all of the Irregular Tomestones you need before the event expires.
