I joined a Free Company
Okay, I just joined a Free Company, or FC as a lot of people refer to them, on Adamantoise. It’s my first one. I’ve heard Gar talking about his Free Company experiences and decided to give it a try.
As I understand it, they can vary a lot, and it really depends on the members and the leadership. From my limited interaction so far, this one seems like it might be a good fit but only time will tell.
I’m really looking forward to giving my chocobo room in the FC stable, but first I need to get trained in stabling my chocobo. I also understand that you can adjust the color of your chocobo based on what you feed it. Gar has a nice dark blue one. I want to look into that.
Chocobo
Okay, I have to stop and explain something here… Gar has a close healer friend named Sylv. Sylv has taught Gar a lot and has kept him alive through a number of battles. Among their friends, Sylv is well respected.
As the chocobos level, they can focus on skills. Gar originally trained his chocobo to be a healer when Sylv wasn’t around. As a tongue-in-cheek recognition of Sylv’s help, Gar named his chocobo “Aspires-to-be-Sylv.”
Most of Gar’s close friends have done something similar.
Well, after spending some time with Gar and his friends (including Sylv), I decided to name my chocobo “Doesn’t-Know-Sylv” because my chocobo has yet to meet Sylv.
Gar has a fun group that he hangs out with. I hope I’m lucky enough to find such a group.
Favorite Job or Class
One of the things they asked you to provide in your introduction to the FC is your favorite class or job. For me, that is currently difficult. I don’t have enough experience in any one class to answer that question.
Gar likes DPS (Damage Per Second), and I think I inherited some of the same enjoyment.
However, I also like tanking. I’ve worked on Marauder and Gladiator and found both fun. I’ve run a few dungeons as both with random groups, and had some really good experiences. There is a lot more to wrap your head around… pulls, mitigation, keeping an eye on the team members, looking out for mobs that you can agro, keeping the vermin targeting you, etc. I need more practice but I think I can get there.
That’s different than a DPS where you are trying to do damage and working to minimize the damage to you.
I haven’t tried healer yet, so we’ll see how that goes when I get there.
So far, I have the following to level 30: Gladiator, Marauder, Thamaturge, Pugilist, and Arcanist.
I initially thought I wouldn’t like Arcanist, but as I learned to control and direct my carbuncle, that started to change. We’ll see how it evolves.
Favorite? Well, I can’t say yet.
I plan to give them all a try and keep leveling.
Crafting and Gathering
Oh, and I’m doing the same with the gatherer and crafter jobs. I need a few more levels on Fisher before I have all three gatherers to level 30.
I’ve started on some of the crafters. Crafting can be expensive for someone just starting out. That’s part of the reason I started looking at the gatherers.
Gar’s funny in that regard. He’s fairly wealthy in that he has several tens of millions of gil. But he is also frugal and doesn’t like buying stuff unless he has to. Of course, it is that frugality that allowed him to collect all of that gil… That, and his love of Treasure Hunts.
Luckily, he gave me some seed money to help me get started. It has really helped. Although, I need to start watching it more closely.
I have hired a couple of retainers to help sell the stuff I collect and craft.
More later… Have fun and help rid Eorzea of vermin.
