(Gar’s probably not going to talk to me for a month for this post.)
Gar believes he is named after some ancient warrior. That is part of what lead him down the Adventurer path. He thought he was predestined for greatness.
Okay, let’s be fair… He has turned out to be a rather exceptional warrior, earning the Warrior of Light title and everything. But that has been based on him, and his focus.
He’s a good guy that wants to do right by people and do whatever he can to protect people. That includes battling gods, demons, and monsters.
Well, one day I asked our parents about our names because they are quite unusual by any metric. I mean “Gar” and “Rauwrer”…
I mean, they aren’t traditional Miqo’te or Hrothgar names.
Well, they looked embarrassed and were extremely reluctant to tell me. They readily admitted that they knew very little about our cultures when they found each of us. And they didn’t know who to talk to or trust.
I told them I search all of the books, and I could find and talk to the lore masters that I was aware of, and none of them knew of anyone of note from the past with those names.
After some pressing they finally decided to come clean and tell me.
As it turns out, when we were tiny, they would echo the noises we made back to us. And out of that, our names evolved and stuck.
Apparently, Gar made a lot of Gggggaaaarrerrrrarrrrer like noises, and I used to make Rrrrraaaaauuuuuwwwaauuuwwwwrrrrrrr like noises.
When they told me, I burst out laughing.
Part of it was knowing how Gar was going to react to that news. … Ah, the fun of siblings.
