Chocobos of Many Colors

Did you know you can change the color of your chocobo?

Once Rauwrer discovered this, he wanted his chocobo to match his stripes. If you’re curious, Rauwrer Purple is Gloom Purple.

It is a fairly easy process. It just requires a stable and feeding your chocobo a bunch of specific foods.

There are a number of good websites already on this, and I’m not going to try to reproduce them here. A couple of websites that can be extremely beneficial are “FFXIV Chocobo Colour Calculator” and “Lulu’s Tools Chocobo Color.”

When it comes to checking out the various “standard” FFXIV colors, a good site is the “Eorzea Collection Dyes Preview.”

The “Chocobo Colour Calculator” allows you to select your chocobo’s current color and the desired final color, and it tells you what you need to feed it to get there.

The feeds are:

Mammon PearLightensDeepensLightens

O’Ghomoro BerriesLightensLightensDeepens

Han Lemons reset the color to the original Desert Yellow.

The chocobo will need to be stabled to be fed.

It takes 6 earth hours for the full effect of a feeding to be seen.

You can feed all of the fruit in one setting. However, I suggest batching them over several sessions and seeing what the effects are. Don’t panic if you end up with some weird or less-than-attractive colors during the process, just continue feeding.

You can always adjust the colors some. For example, if you want to make your purple a bit more blue, then feed some O’Ghomoro Berries.

As the Chocobo Colour Calculator suggests, you probably want to mix the feeds and not feed all of one type before moving on to the next. There is a good reason for this, but it gets into how the colors are stored.

If you don’t care about the technical details, then just mix it up. Both of the sites recommended provide feeding orders if you want to be careful.

If you want to get into the details about why order is important, then check out “Lulu’s Tools Chocobo Color About Page.”
